If I were in your position, visiting the history and experience page of Eck Custom Homes, I would be looking for an extensive background and career in the custom home building business. Well, let me assure you, Eck Custom Homes can easily satisfy your concerns.
Frank Eck, President and owner of Eck Custom Homes, lives in your community, beautiful Greenwood, South Carolina. I am a highly focused person, and I knew from my early high school days that I wanted to be in the building business in some aspect. I owned my own painting and repair company working evenings after school and weekends.
I focused my construction and building interests in college, and I graduated with a degree in Construction Management from Piedmont Technical College here in Greenwood back in 1977.
While attending college, I was employed with the Greenwood Mills Corporation working under Greenwood's Master Carpenter, George Powell, providing maintenance and renovations to the corporation's vast real estate holdings.
I then relocated to the booming town of Hilton Head Island, SC in 1977. This was a time that provided me great pleasure with the island's many residential developments just starting to evolve. I was employed as lead carpenter, with various contracting firms, working on many homes throughout the Hilton Head Island area, and I gained a wealth of working knowledge. In 1979 I received my Residential Builders License, and ventured out into the field of ownership, starting Plantation Services Inc. My service was to maintain the real estate condominiums for The Sea Pines Plantation Company.
I loved learning the business aspect of my own company, but I quickly grew bored with the lack of challenge and went to work for a quality, custom home builder on the island as project manager for a couple of years. This experience taught me many things: I learned that you can not mass produce quality custom homes; you have to treat each home and home owner individually. I learned the importance of details both seen and unseen. I learned the importance of scheduling and doing each phase in its proper order; finish one phase completely before starting the next, and, all important, I learned to listen and communicate with the home owner.
I then reentered the business world under the name of Eck Builders Inc., and I quickly evolved from framing to exterior trim, then on to roofing and foundations. In 1985 I decided that I wanted more from my career, and I moved on to build high quality custom homes.
In 1999, with the Island becoming more crowded everyday, and becoming a less desirable place to raise a family, my wife and I decided it was time to pack up our boys and relocate back to our home town of Greenwood, SC.
